for how to set the IP address on the printer. It may be done using a web interface. You will need to know about how the other devices on the network get their IP addresses. If it's all static...no problem. You just keep an account of the used addresses and/or label all devices with their IP address. Make sure all are withing the network address range. Many will use the standard MS convention of 192.168.0.1 and increment the right hand digit by 1 for each added device. If using a router, you might want to enter it's web interface and select a range for the IP addresses it will handle using DHCP and give the printer and address outside of that range. Hope this helps.
I am going to Kenya on a mission trip and will be working in a children's school. I will have five PCs running Win XP, an HP 4100 laser printer and an ethernet switch. I plan to set the printer with a static IP so it will not be tied to a specific PC and connect the printer and five PCs to the switch so each PC can use the printer.
Can anyone tell me the steps to accomplish all of this and in what order? I have more than a basic knowledge of PCs but I have not done this before and will NOT have access to the internet once I am there. Also, is there a better way while still having access to the printer if if not all PCs are operating?
