Static Converting Cassettes to Digital

by Metaphysical1 / September 4, 2008 12:47 PM PDT

Hello all! I have been trying to convert my cassette tapes to digital by connecting my tape deck to the sound card on my computer. I use Audacity to capture the recordings and everything works fine except for one thing: I get periods of very disrubing static during the playback of the cassette tape. The problem is not with the tape itself, nor with the tape deck. I only get the intermitant static when the deck is connected to my computer.

Does anyone have any idea about what could be wrong and how I can correct it? I would be very grateful!

I am not privy to all the details (and even then I may not know the answer) but this sounds like some AGC is enabled that we need to turn off.

Thanks for the response, but how do I turn it down?

AGC is an on/off setting on my audio card.
