If you had enough money to buy new batteries and a charger, you probably can afford to buy a used S3100. They go for about $30-40 on eBay. If it doesn't have to be that exact camera, you can probably score something even cheaper.
Help--I really need this cam to work and have no $ to buy a new cam, or get this one repaired. Please read on. Thank You.
Camera: Fuji film Finepix S3100
Model #: 4CA58527 Problem: The camera was working perfectly, then, suddenly, it would not turn on. It acts as if there are no batteries in it and is completely dead.
Other Info: I have taken great care of this camera and it has worked for 7 years without a glitch.
The following is everything that I have tried but has not worked:
Replaced batteries with new rechargebles charged with a new Rayovac charger and new (NiMH) batteries of the correct size. Charger model: Rayovac RAVPS13-4BC with 4 new AA batteries.
Repeated with newly charged batteries of the same brand and charger. Cleaned battery terminals (were not dirty).
Searched many forums (including the Fujifilm site) but no solutions have worked.
Searched many forums and the Fujifilm site--no solutions have worked
Cleaned the power button: Flipped cam upside down, opened battery compartment. Removed batteries. Tilted cam to the right so rubbing alcohol would not run into camera works. Dripped enough alcohol into battery compartment so it would flow down into power button mechanism. Turned cam on and off several times. Dried completely with paper towels and then hairdryer (set on no heat). Installed batteries.
Repeated above procedure
Repeated above procedure but used a small amount of WD-40 rather than rubbing alcohol. Hooked cam to laptop using USB cable to see if cam turned on as in photo upload to comp.
Searched Fujifilm site for solutions. No solutions.
Posted Help me on CNET user forum. No responses.
Checked out, several, digital photography books out from the library, but none speak or dead cams. Prayed to the Universe to heal my cam.
Re-posted today.
I have read this problem happens to many, who have a fuji film digital camera. Some have fixed the problem using the above methods, but some users have not. My cam is 7 years old, has been taken care of, and has always preformed perfectly. I MUST have a digital cam for my work/etc.
Your advice would be greatly appreciated as I have no funds to buy a new cam, or get this one repaired. Or, if you know of other forums/fix-it websites where I might find a solutions, please respond.
Thank you all for reading my post.
It is very cool to see others helping others during this horrible economic crisis. Bravo to the people!
