Startup Problems

Jul 17, 2005 9:23PM PDT

Hi There I have been having problems with my computer for a while now and most things seem to lead me to the conclusion that it is the graqhics driver Radeon which I have updated. Still having crashes I decided to clean my fans and processor fins etc. finding them cloged with dust I thought that this would cure the problem. I put the computer back together which I have done several times before and when I went to start the computer all the fans initialy started for about 2 or 3 seconds and then stops.I have checked all the wireing connections. I decided to check the PSU to make sure the power supply was working. I have a tester that puts a load on the PSU while checking the voltages with a switch to apply the load. With the 20Pin connector disconnected and with the rest of the wireing inplace and the load switched on the fans seem to start normally, the voltages seem to be within tolorances. There is no bios error beeps to indicate a problem.
The motherboard is a KD7 Raid with a AMD Atholon XP Processor 2.4Ghz
and 512 MB PC2100 ram. I am not sure but I think this may be a problem with the motherboard. Have you any Ideas what the problem could be. Many thanks to all who try to answer this problem.
Kindest Regards Tony B

Hi the PSU is a 350 High power with PFC I am not sure what graphics card I have I know it is a ATI Radeon but as the model No I am unsure I think it is a 8500 but don't quote me on that. Yes I did uninstall the previous driver and I did remove the heatzinc and I did renew the thermal paste. I have checked since to see if I had not replaced the heatzinc correctly but all seemed OK. This is the time when you could do with a second PC the same as the faulty one and swap things over bit by bit.
