Resolved Question

Starting a business site on ipage?

Sep 22, 2013 12:56PM PDT

I'm considering ipage for my new business site but I saw in another thread that ipage doesn't offer "dedicated IP address or SSL (non shared) certificates" and this makes it difficult to sell anything on a site. Is it really a big problem? If so what hosting should I go with (I've heard bad things about Godaddy lately).

The dedicated IP address should not be a problem.

However no one I know would do a money transaction on an insecure site. But maybe your business is not web based and you just need to get your content out. I can't guess what your goals are but can assure you that no one I know will transact on insecure sites.

The bad things is on the internet about any web provider. The internet has the memory and there will always be someone that felt they did them wrong.

Thank you. I didn't understand the ramifications of those terms. I will definitely want a good secure site for online transactions and I guess ipage wont do. Do you have any suggestions?

It's a big world.

My mom's workplace tried for years to develop their own web site for sales. I had consulted with another company and they did the GoDaddy and were up and selling in a few weeks. The other company wanted custom and it took 2+ years.

I can't guess why folk want to build wheels today.

There are a lot of websites which offers the services as ipage. Dedicated IP address and SSL certificates are necessary for keeping the site up and for gaining trust of the customers.

You definitely need a secure website

You definitely need a secure website if you are going to do money transactions there these days. But, if you are doing the transactions on PayPal, it is not a requirement.

I wouldn't worry about the shared IP unless the other websites sharing it are dodgy. Wink
