start up program

I want to stop windows messenger from starting when i turn my computer on,I went to run Type MSCONFIG, then clicked on startup then i unchecked msmsgs then clicked apply & ok, Then clicked restart, When i started the computer up again windows messenger started up again, When i went back to run, MSCONFIG, startup msmsgs was checked again how can i stop windows messenger from starting up. I am using win xp home ie6. Thanks AJ
