Start up Black Screen No CDs

Dec 28, 2003 1:07AM PST

Dell Dimension 8300 Windows XP Home P IV 2.6GHz 512 MB RAM 120 G HD
On System start up after the usual Dell screen a black screen with the following error message was displayed.
Secondary Drive 0 not found Secondary Drive 1 not found Strike F1 to continue F2 to run setup utility. Nec CD-RW NR-9300A Liteon DVD_ROM LTD163
After using the F1 option the System continued to load but without any CDs
I did a AVG anti virus scan, which found no problems. Did a warm restart and had same error message. Did a Cold start and then Dell Screen followed by Windows XP Home screen then normal start up with both CDs listed and operational.
Wondering what caused this problem and looking for solution, to prevent reocurrance.
