Try booting up into safemode instead (press F8 a couple of times after the first black and white boot screen leaves), and go to RUN and type the Startup tab and write down the programs that are starting up in the background and post back so we can help you determine what you can uncheck to make your boot faster.

Also look for RUN= lines in the Win.ini tab and LOAD= and uncheck anything that shows up. Something is taking so long to load up during your boot that it's locking up the start button before it finishes.

Also go to and download the free Ad-Aware program and install it. When you open the program, click the 'check for updates' button (be on line when you do this) so it can get the latest updates, then run the program. If you have spyware, it will locate it and let you remove it safely from within this program.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
