Whooo boy!

Unfortunately we will now be showered with comments about how this is Bush's fault Sad

My prayers for this Italian's soul and for his grieving family. And I continue to pray for those held captive that they may be returned home safe by the animals that hold them.

Just heard on GMA that the Italians are even pulling reporters out

Seems like all civilians need to exit.

Sadly it may be that necessary, although all the foreign civilians there are even more volunteers than the military. At least I hope had a good idea what they were getting into when they went into a occupation zone.

Unfortunately withdrawing civilians while prudent, will encourage more such terrorists activities.

A question of patience ...
Apr 14, 2004 11:49PM PDT

... if civilians left the country, that would severly hamper reconstruction efforts. Eventually the majority of "every day" Iraqis will rat out the mostly infused "insurgents" (most including this Sadr guy are either from or backed by Iran or Syria). Of course this would take longer. The "loyal opposition" in this country would never have the patience to let this scenario of us letting Iraqis choose the fate of their country, and that is what would eventually further embolden the terrorists.

Hi, Evie.

Sadr is the son of a beloved Shiite cleric who was killed by Saddam's secret police in 1999. But he's a radical who believes in a fundamentalist Iranian State much like Iran's. One of the reasons removing Saddam was a bad idea -- Iraq under Saddam was very analogous to Yugoslavia under Tito, and we all (sadly) remember what happened there after Tito's death.

If bush had ever had a decent plan for Iraq besides going in and blowing stuff to bits, it might not be such a cluster f-ck now. But he didn't and it is. Opposition to his failed policies have had, at most, a minor effect in Iraq.
