1. Your subject notes a start problem, but your post seems to indicate you repaired that.

2. About data. Your files are always at risk if you didn't learn that a hard disk is not a safe place to keep files you can't lose. If you can't lose a file, you put such on other things such as a CDR, a memory stick and what other places you can.

That final term paper has a hard copy so you can type it back in.

Many only learn about backup the hard way. An experience like yours is the common lesson.

Take the lesson for what it is and learn how to not lose your files in the future.

Replay to this message-and to Mr. Proffitt.
Thank you but my English is not very god-I try to explain
I have found my data in hard drive C.-after I have reinstall Win Xp Pro in my pc-but the problem is ?I can?t open the data from before - I get start problems.
Before I have this problem-than- my whole data have been save in my pc like this.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator and like this. (Pc bank-Microsoft Office-and pictures and so.so)
After I have reinstall Win Xp Pro-my whole data has disappeared ?but I have found data save in drive C?but can?t open.
I old so think that I have 2 Windows Xp Pro in my pc.
My question to you is??
1. How I can find out if I have 2 Win Xp Pro??
2. How I remove 1 Win Xp Pro from my hard disk (If I have 2)??
3. It?s possible?? To recover the default settings (path) for the data I have lost-BUT I FOUND?T AGAIN IN DRIVE C: ??

Found a file, but can't open.

After you install XP, your APPLICATIONS may not work. This is entirely proper. If your file is a Word Document, you'll need Word installed. This is true for each file type.

You ask:

1. How I can find out if I have 2 Win Xp Pro??

Do NOT FIX THIS! You have other issues to deal with first. Secure your files in a safe place and get your applications working again.

2. How I remove 1 Win Xp Pro from my hard disk (If I have 2)??

Do NOT FIX THIS! You have other issues to deal with first. Secure your files in a safe place and get your applications working again.

3. It?s possible?? To recover the default settings (path) for the data I have lost-BUT I FOUND?T AGAIN IN DRIVE C: ??

More likely no. You might find installing your word processor will let you open your documents again.
