start menu width

Oct 28, 2005 12:29AM PDT

I can't seem to locate how to change the width of the start menu. My daughter has so many programs, that when you choose start / programs and view all, you can only see two columns, and only a small part of the third one. How can I resize this?
Thank you for being so patient with my recent questions.

figment414, Look for long program names and rename them to a shorter name. An example would be Lavasoft Ad-aware rename it to just Ad-aware. The length of the longest name determines the width of each/all column(s), so if just one is real long, that'll affect all columns.

Tufenuf gave the best method to try.

If not quite what you want try playing with this.

R/C a blank area of the desktop.
Select properties.
Select appearance.
Select menu.
Bring the font size down a notch or two.

Change it to scroll programs
Oct 28, 2005 9:30AM PDT

Right click on start, select properties then customize. Scroll down the list and put a check mark in the box next to scroll programs then OK. It will change the way the programs are displayed to one long list. You can also arrange them in alphabetical order to make finding the programs easier. Right click on one of the entries and select sort by name.

Some other ways...
Oct 28, 2005 9:48AM PDT

1. Right click on the Desktop > left click on Properties > Appearance > open the dropdown menu under Font and select Normal > Apply > OK.

2. Right click on Start > left click on Properties > Customize > select Small Icons > Advanced > Scroll Programs (for one long list) > OK.

3. Left click on Start > right click on Programs > left click on Open. (for window view)

Hope this helps.
