Which MacBook.

Replacement drives are cheaper than an entire machine.

Or one could consider a Firewire DVDRW (again, cheaper than a new machine or a trip to any service counter.)

Either way, you are still going to have to find,

beg or borrow, a Mac OS X installation disk. Doesn't matter what version it is.

Create bootable disk from existing system: Howto
Aug 16, 2011 5:25AM PDT

MrMacFixIt,
What would you recommend that redland327 use to create a bootable cd/dvd from his existing system.

This would also be helpful for those of us that have installed Lion on MacBookPros and anticipate the day when the system cannot boot from the HD.
Thank you in advance.

Creating a bootable disk,
Aug 16, 2011 6:19AM PDT

is only possible if you have a copy of OS X, which redland327 does not have.

The only alternative is to purchase a copy of OS X from Apple or from eBay.

The link supplied by Bob will only work if redland327 has a copy of the Lion install file which, judging from what they have already posted, is a very long shot.
With a description of "an old model MacBook", it may be that the MacBook is not capable of running Lion
