Star LC24-200 Dot matrix printer

Apr 8, 2005 3:22AM PDT

Can someone please tell me if it is possible to connect one of these printers to a PowerMac G4?

There is nothing wrong with this printer and I am loath to dump it (too much of that going on). The G4 has USB and Firewire outputs, but the printer needs a parallel input (I think).

Is there anyway around this?

Many thanks

Yes.

But it involves Linux, a network and much configuration. I can't tell you anymore since all I can do is supply the direction and not the details.

Thank you Bob. I had the suspicion that this would not be easy. probably cheaper in the end to buy a new printer - pity.

I'm not a MAC person. I can suggest if you haven't already google for it. keywords: G4 parallel port

Now, check to see if there is ny "adapter" available for either USB or if the G4 has serial port, use it. Of course any solution must include being MAC ready. Thus, LPT->serial -OR- LPT->USB, I though firewire is available.
