Stange Sounds

Dec 10, 2005 4:52AM PST

I have an Inspiron 9300 XP Home SP2. I use ANG AntiVirus and Zone Alarm free firewall, using verizon DSL. My question: When I have my speakers turned up, we hear the sound of a door opening and then closing quite frequently. It occurs if the comuters is being used or sitting idle.

I it part of a virus/trojen or anything of the like?

Hi, Sam. Any Chance Your Comp's on Wireless and...

picking up radio signals from a next door baby monitor?
Same could be obtained if comp on same electrical panel side as your baby monitor is plugged into (some use household circuitry to run their signals eliminating the radio waves of other types).
Also possible that "someones" built in microphone is picking up room sounds. This often happens with machines using voice recognition type software like for dicta typing (with random characters showing up on the screen). Even without such software, many comps have built in mics and settings may not be turned off. With the advent of VOIP will it get worse? Hmm,Just thoughts.Happy

ICQ running?
Dec 10, 2005 10:11PM PST

When I redownloaded ICQ a few weeks ago I kept hearing doors slamming.

Unlike the other messenger programs, it doesn't send out a "so and so" has signed on/off message. It just creates a sound. Drove me nuts til I figured it out.
