If you don't block vents, pinch cables, etc. It's fine.
Help, I have limited space and short cords. Will it harm my Gateway GT5026E to lay the tower on its side and stack my flatscreen monitor on the top to save space?

On top of what Robert mentioned, it will work. The fore mentioned has been done often enough but take care that if the monitor is heavy don't crush or distort the PC case sides too much. As is, it tends to accept typical LCDs to do this. Otherwise, make or provide some support if too heavy. In other words, a typical 17-19in. will do fine, but getting into 24in. and larger tends to defeat this.
