Question

SSC Upgrade -- What tools?

Dec 23, 2014 6:56AM PST

<span id="INSERTION_MARKER">I purchased the parts for a tower-enclosed system in early 2009 (and have added some components in the last 5+ years). System is now based on a eVGA nForce 780i motherboard, Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor with 8GB of DDR2 ram, a couple of nice graphics cards driving four displays, a Cooler Master Cosmose 1000 case, a 120GB SanDisk SSD for drive C, and a pair of 1TB Western Digital (rotation) drives for data. OS is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I also have a 1 TB WD "Digital My Book" external hard drive that I use for system image backups.<span>

<span>I need to replace the 120GB SSD with a larger one. I have new, still in the box, Intel 530 series SSD available, and want to replace the 120GB SSD with the newer 240GB drive; then I'll re-purpose the 120 as a data drive for my websites.
<span>

<span>Software at hand: Windows 7 system image tool and Acronis True Image 2013. I'd like to avoid buying another software package.
<span>

<span>Any suggestions as to how to proceed?

Answer
Sorry for typos
Dec 23, 2014 7:01AM PST

I'm new to posting on this forum, and don't know how to edit stupid typos. Example, subject should be SSD Upgrade, not SSC Upgrade. Yikes! Also, some <span> tags are being displayed. Double yikes!!

I hope these typos will not dissuade folks from responding. I have a need, have some resources, and just don't want to spend any more money.

Thanks!

Answer
Acronis
Dec 24, 2014 2:45AM PST

I have an old version of that product which I keep on a disc and it has a clone util.

Mount the new disk.
Boot acronis.
Select clone.
Select the input and output device....hit go.

Caution....there is no write protect switch on a disk....don't get that input and output wrong.
Remove old disk and boot from the new disk.
