Squashed!

Feb 3, 2005 6:25PM PST

Hmmm,

I like the idea of the forum links on the left, but.......

I feel squashed in, Sad

It wouldn't be so bad for us users with high resolutions if the message area was stretchable, ie expanding the browser window left to right. But that just stretches the yellow, (mustard), border.

But then people with lower res couldn't do that anyway.

Not sure about this new format.....

Well, it kinda, in a way, seems like that to me, but in reality it is not as I use a full screen on my 19" CRT, and full screen on "open in new window". I have my resolutions set at 1024x768. I believe CNet and most of the stuff on the internet recommend 800x600 as that is the usual standard suggested to developers for the average general viewing public.

I know some of these design changes are drastic,
Feb 4, 2005 4:18AM PST

but please understand that while I honestly feel your concerns. In order to bring the CNET forums to be an integrated part of the CNET site, these changes must be made. If the forums strayed from CNET's consistency, then eventually resources to maintain it would eventually be taken away and promotion to it would be lost.

I overall use to dictate the look and feel back when the community forums was almost in it's own world, but now that the community forums are in the eyes of many and really starting to blossom, I have to accept the changes with designs and move forward.

Like any changes, and boy have we gone through many of them, it will take sometime to get use to. And I hope that you are willing to embrace them and continue on to be part of this community. You all have been wonderful in your participation and support for this community and I thank you!

So I hope you understand my position and these changes that are absolutely necessary to keep this community alive and shining.

Respectfully yours,

Drastic changes, maybe..

...but those of us who need assistance are still able to post our queries and receive very valuable help from moderators and members - I don't really care what the site layout looks like as long as this avenue of aid remains available. Well done, Lee!

I am rather fond of those left sidebar links but...
Feb 5, 2005 12:20AM PST

I have difficulty finding the forum desired because links and groups seem to keep changing positions and content. Being able to click once on those links is nice but having to hunt leaves me just going to the top to click the main forum page... then another click to forum desired. That seems like double effort!

What am I missing or am I seeing incorrectly?

Thanks,

Glenn

I like the changes
Feb 5, 2005 5:18AM PST

Call me young (please), call me crazy (get in line), or just call me,
but I like the changes.

I can still get to all the places I used to, in the past, and now to many new places of what are useful appear along the left border. Sort of makes it easier.

Thanks Lee. Good job.
