Squaretrade absolutely ridiculous!

Mar 22, 2015 11:27PM PDT

i do not know if this is the right forum to post to, but i want to post to help people just incase they are considering Squaretrade as a warranty provider...so i got my laptop from TigerDirect and purchased the squaretrade warranty cause i thought it was a good idea.. It had Accidental Coverage too.

about a month ago my USB ports stopped working.. nothing i did would revive them.. I started a claim with squaretrade and they gave me a claim# etc to bring it to the tigerdirect store. after a day or so TigerDirect called to say that they cannot find a replacement motherboard since the motherboard was the issue. they reinstalled everything and it wasn't working...at that point they said there is nothing they can do but to ask for my money from squaretrade

so i picked up my computer called squaretrade and they said they have to look at it and try and fix it... so they will send me a box.. that was March 3rd 2015.. they said it would 2 business days... it's now March 20th and i still don't have the box... i've called 4 times and each time they said it was on enroute.. today i called and the guy said there was an issue with FedEx and that the claim has been on hold and they have to reopen my claim! ***!!

my laptop is used for my business where i run a photobooth and i have usb devices connected to run the touchscreen monitor, printer, camera etc etc... my next event is this weekend and i won't have my laptop!

so if your considering to purchase squaretrade please consider that you will only get help from offshore agents that are taught to follow a script and they will not answer your questions directly and say what they are trained to say.. if you do sign with them then make sure ur getting proper information! I was going to use them for my New Cell phone but i am going to consider another warranty option.

The lesson about gear for business
Mar 23, 2015 2:56AM PDT

Is to have a second backup set. Photographers (the ones I know) carry no less than 2 cameras. Some have 4 and a dozen lens.

As to the motherboard, it's possible that no spares are available and these warranties don't cover when the maker has no spares.

Not much has changed over the years. If this is your business you plan for this. Some learn this like you, others learn from forums and your experience.

lesson already learned just bad luck and crappy situation

totally understandable..

we have a backup laptop but unfortunately that is under warranty repair for a bad battery pack... usually we would have a backup laptop..

i have 3 dslr camera and backup printer etc for the business... that's why it's so upsetting with these delays...

How much of a laptop is required?
Mar 23, 2015 3:32AM PDT

I'm seeing laptops in the mid 250 range (amazon best sellers laptops) that can run most things. Let's hope a gig pulls in enough to get gear as needed.

spend money wisely
Mar 23, 2015 4:18AM PDT

the software we run needs at least 4gb.. in Canada its hard to find a laptop that cheap with those specs..

and most warranty claims don't go for longer then 2 weeks.. this one has take 20days+..

so two laptops at those specs should be enough... haha and i don't have to worry about gigs pulling through .. it's a matter of spending money wisely no matter how much money is flowing in..

I hear you.

Those deals are not in Canada it seems. 20 days is nothing compared to what I ran into with some brands. It took months to get a replacement board. Read that warranty one more time to see if there is any way out.
