Hi,
where you beable to install sql server express 2005 on the same server?
I use SQL Server 2000 at my place of business. I need to create a linked server so I can run queries against a DB2 database. I created the ODBC connection and can get at the database tables in Microsoft Access but cannot get at them in SQL Server 2000.
I did some Googling and it seems that the DB2 OLE Provider is needed for this, and that this comes with SQL Server 2005 but not with SQL Server 2000. There is an Express Edition (free!) of SQL Server 2005 which I'd like to install and try out, but I have a couple of questions first:
1. I would not want to uninstall SQL Server 2000. Does anyone know if the two can ''get along'' on the same computer? I had SQL Server 6.5 and SQL Server 2000 running together at my last job and never had any problems.
2. What features are stripped out of the Express Edition? The Microsoft page was a bit light on info. Basically I'd need to be able to establish the link, write a stored procedure that would import data from the DB2 database into our SQL Server 2000 database, and create a scheduled task to run the stored procedure. As long as the Express Edition can do that, I should be good.
Thanks!
