Spyware, Malware, or just screwed

by walterwood / June 4, 2006 1:28 PM PDT

My wife picked up a nasty Spyware, Malware, virus or something on her new 1500 dollar laptop. It's running Windows XP and I can't even open up Windows Explorer to surf the net. I have to disable the internet connection just to stop the laptop from freezing up. By the way I have Norton 2006 (with anti-spyware) and have kept it updated regularly but it still missed the virus that I have. I know now I need to switch so are there any recommendations for what I can do?

Norton

Hi - I just decided, last week, to erase all my Norton content which I have had for many years and regularly paid for the updates. It got me into more trouble than it was worth. I have switched to AVG which is just as thorough and is freeware. I do not mean to recommend it as yet - although others have done so - but would consider it as an option. Good luck - Amos.

that you run a good registry cleaning program such as WINDOWS REGISTRY REPAIR PRO amd make sure you FLUSH your CACHE(pronounced cash) in internet explorer tools delete all temp files clear history go to content clear ssl caches and fourms and passwords its in second box at bottom page or frist one cant remember at moment or try downloading the new IE7beta and installing it do a search for HackersCallMeLEET at the fourms to learn more about security and where to go to learn more about microsoft products and how to secure them cause that spyware or virus or trojan could have been put there buy a remote user if it still acts up after that you will need to consult the manufacture as to what to do about reinstalling the os as each notebook vender has there own policys about instaling OSes on there product for security reasons as part of a theft prevention and if you aquired this notebook second hand it could be stolen so be WARNED but if you baught from a company CALL THEM they will instruct you on what to do and you will be back in bussiness in no time
