SPYWARE and PDAs. New headaches?

by R. Proffitt Forum moderator / November 14, 2004 9:51 PM PST

While most V and S Forum readers are acutely aware of the SPYWARE plague, I want to read if anyone has been on any current PDA that comes with IE on the PDA.

My WiFi PDA purchase is indefinitely on permanent hold since no PDA maker/supplier is giving me any assurance about what recourse I have if I find their supplied PDA with the only browser being Internet Explorer to be exploitable. I know it's that same old recycled base code that gives PCs such ills, so my question fell on deaf ears until I told them "sorry, I can't buy it because of this issue".

One unit is the Dell X30 with Wifi which isn't so bad pricewise, but the model 50 is quite a step up in price (2X) with no assurance that I can return it if the builtin browser has a security issue.

Anyone with thoughts on PDAs with Internet Explorer?

Bob

The Samsung RF23M8090SG

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
