Spyware/Adware help!

by Maia / May 2, 2004 1:28 PM PDT

I'm having major problems with adware. I was using ad aware but found that Webroot's Spy Sweeper worked better. It detects lots of stuff, but the problem is that even when the adware and everything is deleted, it just comes back when I reboot. It will not go away! Multiple scans do not solve the problem. It seems like I just keep getting more. How do I remove it permanently?
Two other things: When I shut down my computer earlier, it said someone named 'Xenolith' was connected to my computer! I wasn't running any file share programs where this would happen, so is it a hacker or what?
Also, can anyone recommend a good firewall? (other than Norton). Thanks.
