Spyware

by Neysan / October 29, 2005 11:22 AM PDT

When I Installed edonkey2000 it downloaded and installed spyware programs called new.net and accoona, and now
my windows (WinXP SP2) is acting weird, even after I uninstalled them.
Now, whenever windows starts up, it shows plain blue where the taskbar should be for about half a minute, and when the taskbar finally appears, it doesn't show any icons in the system tray, unless I terminate the programs and rerun them, or log off and on windows

can someone please tell me how to fix this?

Most p2p programs are infested with spyware, adware, etc.
Best to download some anti spyare stuff such as:

Adaware
Spybot S&D
Pest Patrol
Spysweeper
Hi Jack this

You may want to run these in Safe Mode

Now you know you seldom get something for nothing.

Download at least Spybot & AdawareSE and update and let them fix all they find. I fear you (by deleting/un-installing) may have ended up with damaged files. If you can do a system restore to before download worth a try. If above don't help (can't replace a file damaged before they were installed) you could try a disk repair by clicking My computer>R click on C:>properties>tools>click "error checking-check now and put checks in both boxes shown. The computer will have to be re-booted to start process and expect in normal mode it to take about 1 hour. If run in safe mode will take considerably longer (but may be necessary depending what donkey left behind). Good luck and let us know how it goes. Happy
