Spyware

Feb 6, 2004 2:07AM PST

I use Win 98SE and discovered something. Instead of running a spyware detection program I just clicked start, find, files or folders, and typed in spyware.
They showed up a bunch, which I deleted individually. I ran the spyware detection program again and came up with 9 scattered on hard disc and startup and one in registry. These couldn't be found when I clicked on start, find, etc.

Be careful deleting files on your own

I think it's safe to assume that most spyware isn't going to identify itself by naming its files "spyware." You may have deleted components of your spyware detection program!

Your best tools are still Ad-Aware and Spybot.

You are probably right. I got rid of a free spyware detection program and the files left behind were almost all the same. Thanks for the note of caution.
