Spybot - easy/advanced modes...

Nov 21, 2003 3:31PM PST

While checking something out for a poster, I noticed that sometimes I had tabs (Tools, Settings, etc.) on the left side of the Spybot window and sometimes I didn't. I finally figured it out tonight. I get the tabs when I use the start menu and I don't get them when I use the desktop icon. The desktop icon is set for easy mode (that's been changed now). I always select the advanced mode when I use the start menu which explains why I didn't recognize "easy mode" when I occasionally used the desktop icon. Learn something new every day. Happy

Well, that certainly explains why sometimes the tabs have been there and sometimes they haven't. I was beginning to think I was hallucinating! Wink

All fixed now. Thanks for the tip!

MzLee, Not Keith here Happy

If you want Spybot-S&D to always start in Advanced mode whenever you will launch it from the desktop, start menu or quick launch, Open SS&D, click on Settings button then Settings again. At the right pane, you should see:
'Installation'>Desktop>select either no icon or advanced mode or default mode.
Do the same for Quick Launch or Start Menu.

The settings aren't there if you're in easy mode...

and I don't think you can set them from easy mode. You should have 3 entries in the start menu - easy mode, advanced mode and uninstall Spybot. Start up in advanced mode and the settings are there. If you have an icon on your desktop, right-click it, select properties, remove "/easymode" on the command and save. Spybot starts up in advanced mode by default but my icon on the desktop was set to start in easy mode (by the addition of the /easymode parm).

In my case, both the desktop icon AND the start menu were set for easy mode only. However, under "All Programs," the menu gave the option for either advanced or easy modes. Using the advanced option, I was then able to access the "Settings" menu, then select the "settings" option where I could then choose to have the desktop icon and start menu both reflect the advanced setting.
