Spy Sweeper

May 6, 2005 3:56PM PDT

I have a two computer network at home. I run a seperate Spy Sweeper on each. I've been having trouble updating definitions. Tonight (May 6) when I go to webroot.com the DirectNIC server informs me that that website url cannont be found on that server. Has it gone belly up? Has it moved? Anybody know what the deal is. I can't even get to their site to find out what's going on. I got a renewal notice in my email, which is wrong, but I clicked the link and got the same server as before.

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks

J Stewart

Update on my Spy Sweeper quest

It looks like webroot.com is no more
May 6, 2005 11:37PM PDT

and doing a googlesearch doesn't show any new website they may have moved to......

However, if I'm not mistaken, spysweeper was a program that was causing more problems than it resolved as it conflicted with other installed programs or it made an entry in the hosts file that shouldn't have been there. I'm doing a check now to find the Forum thread where this was discussed. As soon as I locate it, I'll repost. In the meantime, you could use this link, type in the BODY line "spysweeper" or "spy sweeper" without the quotes and start getting some information from these forums...Also, the Virus and Security Forum will know right away if Webroot.com has gone belly up as they keep up with that stuff faster than the other forums do (link to that forum on the left of this page under Software Forums).

webroot.com no more?? what does this mean?
May 7, 2005 2:34AM PDT

I have spy sweeper Version 3.5. I updated this morning 5/7/05. When I did my screen went to secure.webroot.com. Same site has company info and so forth.
Is this the same spy sweeper you entered your post on?

www.webroot.com doesn't exist anymore at the hosting site of DirectNIC where it originally shows up with a google search.

Webroot it appears changed webhosting sites and didn't get a redirect to the new site which is....

http://www.secure.webroot.com/

If you hadn't included the partial url in your post it wouldn't have been located........

Thank you.

SpySweeper
May 7, 2005 9:30AM PDT

Toni,

I tried to find SpySweeper's site through the 'update program' link in the software today before I read your message and got this:

The requested URL /keycodes/checkforupdate_new2.asp was not found on this server.

Then I followed the URL you gave me which took me to their site. It is interesting that when to contact them through the page link, after going through one screen I ended up with this :

The requested URL /ics/support/default.asp was not found on this server.

The sales link put up my email so I could send one off. I called the toll free number and it answered, but it?s Saturday and their hours are Monday through Friday, so I?m going to call them then. I imagine there are a lot of people scratching their heads.

Thanks for your input, I appreciate it.

I finally got ahold of Webroot
May 8, 2005 7:40AM PDT

Thanks for all your help. I got ahold of Webroot and they responded quickly. In part they said, "We are currently experiencing some technical difficulties with our DNS server. We have identified the issue and it will be corrected and back to normal within 24 hours." Right now everything is working properly.

Thanks again.
