Sprint branded Moto Razr V3m-activate on Verizon network

I've heard it's possible to activate almost any CDMA phone on Verizon. A friend of mine gave me a Sprint branded Motorola Razr V3m to try it out (and said if it worked I could keep the phone). I'm currently on Verizon, so I went into the "My Verizon" feature on Verizon's website and tried to switch my number to the Razr's ESN. Everything on the site worked out okay, but when I tried to dial *228 from the Razr it just dialed and dialed and said that "your account could not be validated". What does that mean? Does that mean that my friend jacked the phone and someone else's service is suspended on the phone? Or, because it is a Sprint phone, does the *228 thing not work? If so, what should I do? Any help is much appreciated!
