Spring home fix-up time. Don't forget your deck!

Apr 30, 2007 11:07PM PDT
More than 92 million homes in the United States have a porch, deck, balcony or patio, and experts say that an astonishing 20 million of those decks are in need of immediate replacement or repair. These are the five warning signs that your deck needs immediate attention.

The 5 warning signs are common sense ones.

We're fixing up, but not repair, adding a bit
May 1, 2007 11:46AM PDT

of course, our deck was just build March 06, and sort of never quite finished.

Adding steps at the other end from the existing ones, lattice work up one in to have a vine growing up, lattice work underneath just to look a bit better, etc.

Just pressure washed the existing deck and posts 2 weeks ago and applied oil based sealer/stain combination to all the top section. After finish the add-ons, will have to do some more painting/staining as soon as wood cures good.

And we're digging up a walk made of concrete blocks buried at ground level to move them over to the new steps (different location than old steps).

On top of all that, I'll probably be helping my wife dig tree roots out of the sites she has marked for planting bushes and flowers, besides a half dozen potted plants already hung.

That's what I call...

... "good work", because after it's done, the results are pleasing to the eye, and give a sense of accomplishment.

(That' what wrong with washing dishes... the same thing is done over and over with no end in sight.) Happy

I miss no having my "hands in the dirt". I used to have a small plot that I double-dug and grew a crop of really nice tomatoes and cucumbers. I put bibb lettuce and marigolds around the perimeter, and it was so pretty, The envy of the neighborhood. Can't do the bending and stooping any more.
