Spreadsheet - simple - free?

May 7, 2006 12:46AM PDT

Win XP SP2

I'm looking for a free application that would let me do a very simple spreadsheet. All I want to do is make a list of my DVD titles with room for brief comment after each and be able to auto sort them alphabetically as I add to the list. Something much simpler to use than the numerous Microsoft stuff I already have.

Thanks

Jbt,

There are 2 Microsoft spreadsheets available: the one in Microsoft Works and MS Excel (part of MS Office). Neither is free. But for the purpose you want to use them both are easy enough to handle, although you have to do a manual sort (just a few mouse clicks). It can even be done in a table in MS Word, if you don't like spreadsheets.

OpenOffice's Calc and Write are about as easy to use and offers more or less the same functionality and, moreover, it's free. But if you already have all that Microsoft stuff like Works and Excel and Word, I wouldn't take the trouble to download it.

Can you define 'much simpler to use' in this case. What's so complex about the products you use now for maintaining your DVD collection?

Thanks for the replies. I did the google search several hours earlier:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=free+spreadsheet&spell=1

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=spreadsheet&as_q=free&btnG=Search%C2%A0within%C2%A0results

Was kinda hoping to get specific recommendations.

Answer:

Some of us (ME!) are not all that smart to begin with and I suffer from extreme short-term memory loss. Not a dope-head here and 'only' 64, but what was once simple is now very complex. I used to do quite well with Word 98. I still have that old computer and just might have to try & use it. My newest Dell crashed several months back and all the MS Word/Works/Office stuff from my backup doesn't work because need a 25 digit code that can't find.

Thanks anyways.

Am downloading OO as we speak.

Dell won't tell me anything for less than $99. Not a company I will ever do business with again.

Download just finished and will hopefully have time to play with it later today.

Thanks much!
