The use of any alcohol is only for its ability to displace water and allow for shorter drying times. It is not as effective in removing sugar nor anything acidic such as citrus juices. These liquids are slightly conductive and such is why it's imperative to remove power and any batteries immediately. To remove such spills, water is better than alcohol. If you have distilled or deionized water, that's even better. Depending on the device, you can try flooding such as circuit boards with water first and alcohol next. Actually, anhydrous methanol is a better choice than rubbing alcohol but there's not much reason to keep it around. Methanol is far better at removing water and dries more quickly as well. Unfortunately, there's not much reason to keep methanol around unless you need chafing fuel or like to make flaming desserts.
I know these things from when I worked in the electronics field and encountered situations where PC boards in laboratory equipment experienced damage from fluid leaks. If lucky, we were able to salvage the boards using this method. Of course we also worked under a laboratory hood and wore protective clothing when using such chemicals.
