If the power was on during the spill the usual failures are the keyboard then the mainboard. Repairs if it's the mainboard are now running more than a cheap laptop so get estimates if it doesn't come back.
The data is usually OK. We pull the HDD and put it into a 20 or less dollar USB case for the owner to copy their files out.
I spilled tea on my Toshiba Satellite laptop yesterday and I got it cleaned up and removed the bartery overnight and just plugged it a while ago after putting the battery back in and the charge light is flickering. Yesterday after the spill it froze and I couldn't get it to power down until the battery was taken out. Should I have done something different on it or will it boot up okay if the battery gets a full charge?
