Question

Specs For First Router

Oct 6, 2018 12:45PM PDT

Getting a VPN for my home but apparently, need an Asus router due to its compatibility with Virgin Media Hub 3.0. My question is what specs should I be looking to get with the router? I live in a small household with only me and one other person using at the same time. The expense is not an issue just don't want to waste money if there is no need too. Thanks hope this made sense as never looked into this until now.

- Can you explain the relationship between "a VPN" and a router?
- Can you explain why only an ASUS router is compatible with a Virgin Media Hub 3.0?
- Can you explain "apparently"? Somebody told you? You read it in a certain link?
- What kind of specs are you thinking of? Like number of LAN ports, Wifi speed, frequency bands, or quite something else?

"Can you explain the relationship between "a VPN" and a router?"
The hub.30 does not allow to connect to VPN (like the old versions)so I need to buy my own router to do so.

"Can you explain why only an ASUS router is compatible with a Virgin Media Hub 3.0?"
I am not saying that its the "only" one there could be many or all but that brand was recommended from virgin forum i looked at.

"What kind of specs are you thinking of? Like number of LAN ports, Wifi speed, frequency bands, or quite something else?"

Erm...that's a good question. I dont know. I need a router which is good enough so I dont need to pull my hair out or incapable of doing a good job at being a router.
