Special Request For Donna B......

by tobeach / June 12, 2009 3:26 PM PDT

Hi, Donna... Having switched over to Avira AntiVir recently, I feel confident enough now to customize some of the settings in EXPERT mode(beyond Scheduled & avnotify disable) and would ask, IF & WHEN you can find the time in your massively busy life, could you list your preferred "expert" settings for the program as you have set them( I have Personal & suspect you have Pro but majority will be the same, just fewer for mine!)?? Even JUST those changed from Default would be great!

I have relied on your expert resets for virtually every security program I've EVER had and swear by them as if from the Goddess's lips direct!! Love I'm sure we all benefit greatly from such! Thanks!! Sandy:D

In reply to: Sorry...

Sorry for the delay Sandy. Hope below guide will help. Glad to hear that you will use Expert Mode settings Happy

Under Guard, select the following:
1. Scan mode: Scan when reading and writing
2. Files: All Files
3. Archives: Maximum recursion depth, change it from 1 to 5
4. Action for concern: leave event logs as checked
5. Heuristic: Check both Macro and Ahead but change it to "High detection level". It will detect more malware with this settings.

Under Scanner, select the following:
1. Files: All Files
2. Additional Settings: Check all boxes except "Ignore offline files"
3. Scan Process: Leave it as default to allow stopping scanner with normal scan priority only.
4. Action for concern: Choose the default which is Interactive>Combined
5. Archives: Check all boxes then leave the recursion depth to 20.
6. Heuristic: Check both Macro and ahead but change it to "High detection level". It will detect more malware with this settings.

Under General:
Extended threats category: select all so all other threats that Antivir is capable of finding as threat will be detected.

Sandy, for all other settings... leave it as is. I only adjusted the "Reporting" to "Complete" with limit of 1MB while the "reporting" under general is set to "delete reports" older than 90 days.

Donna pagefile.sys warning
by Ray_moe / June 13, 2009 5:22 AM PDT
In reply to: Sorry!

Set avira antivirus personnel per your recommended list.

Scanned and all systems clean including rootkits.

1 warning about pagefile.sys unable to open and scan

This is not a problem only wanting to know if there is a way to exclude and not have it show as warning on subsequent scans

Thanks for the info

Most antivirus will not open/scan pagefile.sys
by Donna Buenaventura / June 13, 2009 5:57 AM PDT

but yes, you can exclude it if you like. I personally do not recommend it but again, if you prefer to not to see the warning...

Type C:\pagefile.sys in Scanner>Exception box then click "Add". That file will not be scanned anymore by AntiVir and you should not see the said warning again. Give it a try.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
