Buzz Lightyear was the first man on moon, and the Queen of England invented the telephone.

That's all according to a survey of 1,000 students in the United Kingdom, a majority of whom offered up some rather interesting views on historical events.

"While some findings raise a smile, it suggests that schoolchildren aren't tuned into our scientific heroes in the same way that they might be to sporting or music legends," said Dr. Pam Waddell, of Birmingham Science City, which developed the online survey conducted in early March.

A British Citizen

this about sums it up

It's a wind-up....we Brits just love to take a rise out of pollsters In 2001 there was a campaign nationwide on the internet in the UK for everyone to register their religion as "Jedi Knight" on the Census which considerable numbers of people did.So much so that "Jedi Knight" was the Third most practised religion in the UK . As a result the 2011 Census will exclude asking about people's faith all together

They played the same trick twice and got away with it?
Mar 19, 2010 6:27AM PDT

Seems unlikely. How did they coordinate such an elaborate ruse without the Birmingham Science City survey people finding out?

They did it once..why can't they do it again?

other possibilities are the Facebook, Twitter, My Space (a coordinated attack).

Another one is people are tired of Censuses, Surveys and they have a sense of humoUr (only available in the UK and Canada).

Isn't there a Census going on in the US now?

Of course...

Of course, there is a possibility of trouble if you do that. U.S. Code says:
"Whoever, when answering questions described in subsection (a)
of this section, and under the conditions or circumstances
described in such subsection, willfully gives any answer that is
false, shall be fined not more than $500.".
