Question

speakers/headphones play at same time

Aug 27, 2017 12:14PM PDT

I have the GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 (rev. 1.0) and my case is the Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Acrylic. Here is the manual for the case www.phanteks.com/assets/manuals/PH-ES515P_Western.pdf. My problem is that the headphones plugged into the front panel play at the same time as as my speakers plugged into the back. I have been turning the speakers off when I plug the headphones in. When I plug the headphones in shouldn't it recognize they are plugged in and shut the speakers off? For some reason it doesn't. Could I have something hooked up wrong? This is my first build so I guess I could have done something wrong but I don't know what it could be. I've been looking for answers for hours and hours. I was hoping it was a windows problem. Oh by the way I have win 10 x64. Any ideas would be appreciated!

Answer
Actually no.

The switching of speakers is not a native PC or Windows feature. The maker has to set it up with care to wiring and motherboard capability.

If fact the motherboard manual writes:
"Audio signals will be present on both of the front and back panel audio connections simultaneously"

So you or the machine maker has to craft something different than stock.

I couldn't find what you said in the manual, do u know what page it was?

SPEAKERS/HEADPHONES: This page allows you to set the output device to speakers or headphones and set up your speaker/ headphone configurations. (Note: Speakers and headphones cannot be used at the same time. When the headphone function is selected, the sound will come out only from the front line out or rear headphone jack.) I have it on headphones and it's still playing from the speakers.

in the creative soundblaster recon 3di control panel it has the option to switch but it doesn't seem to work. windows only has speakers for an option, when I plug in headphones nothing changes. in the creative sb app when it's set to 5.1 I plug in the headphones it switches to headphones from 5.1 but the speakers don't go off. I don't know what the problem is.

To me the problem is simple. Broke and manual gave no

The manual gave me no indication it would change automatically. This is a feature I see working in some machines but self built seems to fail this far too often.

You may have to try again with the wiring check, and the settings which I can't test for you.

If the manual writes one thing and the board does something else, you have a warranty issue.

PS. I can't guess how you wired your case front panel.

F_PANEL (Front Panel Header) doesn't have any wires for speakers from my case, F_AUDIO (Front Panel Audio Header) wire is all one piece and it's in right so i'm truly stumped.

Just a few things left.

The board should have their latest BIOS and the drivers from the maker's site. If it doesn't work as per the manual, you can yelp.

yelp? and I tried all of the updates including the bios first. I guess it's broken. I can't think of anything else.
