Speakers beeping....

May 9, 2005 10:57AM PDT

I recently came back from college, and brought my computer with me, including all of its peripherals. At college, i had no problems...but now, with the PC in the basement of the house, my speakers have begun to make beeping noises.
I tried google, but most people there had experienced "morse code"-like beeping....meaning sporadic, in patterns, etc. however, mine is just a constant beeping, once every 3-5 seconds.
I have checked the PC for spyware/adware/etc that may be causing this, and im 90% sure its not a software issue...any ideas?

Check, please

Does it happen more often when moving the mouse? Is your mouse a optical or RF type? Are you near any power user like the furnace, AC etc.? Use a AC cord and swap AC power to another outlet. Check that...

the mouse is a regular mouse...no fancy shmancy clickage here Silly Mouse movement seems to have no effect.
the room is located adjacent to the laundry room....but ive had PC's down here before(last year), and never had the beeping noise
As for the power cord, it currently goes Speakers --> Surge Protector --> wall outlet(outfitted with one of those "additional outlet" things, though its never caused problems before...)

unfortunately, its none of those...the beeping is unrelated to my cell phone(since i had both in the same location at college), and i dont have any routers/laptops working on it...)

I just thought of something...my surge protector has 2 slots for modem cords in it, to prevent power surges and elongate its reach. could that be the culprit? i have my PC going from the modem --> Surge protector --> wall jack....

Eliminating potential culprits

It could be a number of things and your on the right track eliminating potential culprits. I don't know if you visited the link that had something to say about microwave signals but hey I've heard of crazier things. Who knows? Good Luck.
