I can't find the exact model of the BOSE or the TV but almost all TVs won't pass 5.1 if the source is HDMI. I can't tell what BOSE you have so while I'd like to try, I can't tell what you have. Tell all.
OK, here's the usual setup.
Source -> Receiver (does the audio and passes video) -> TV.
TV (optical) -> Receiver for when the TV is the source.

I have Sony BDP-S3200 ($79.00 at BestBuy). Besides playing DVDs and Blu Ray discs, this Sony player has amazon instant video (i'm a prime member), netflix, crackle, hulu, and more than a dozen other movie players, some of which I've never tried. The problem I have is the sound on the Sony comes out of TV instead of my speaker system if I try to watch from google play movies or youtube. I have an old Bose system which has subwoofer and 5 speakers. It has the old stereo wires and the ones that run to the far away speakers are wide white cables which we have hidden with floor wraps. I haven't figured out how to get DVD movies to come out of ALL 5 speakers. With the cable TV, sound comes out all 5 speakers. With the DVD movies, sound will only come out of the first 2 left/right speakers. With the YouTube or Google play movies I can't get speaker sound at all on my speaker system and have to use the TV for sound. My receiver is newer than my BOSE system but its not very new either. Hate to replace the Bose system as when it works, the sound is good and it was expensive. Any advice?
