Question

speaker review question

Feb 3, 2015 5:22AM PST

Hello everyone, new poster here.

Quick question, I've noticed that CNET has done a review on budget surround sound systems (not HTIB, speakers only) and a few more recent individual reviews but I have not been able to find reviews for mid-range 5.1 speaker systems. I keep running into the Energy Classic 5.1 but was wondering if I'm missing any other reviews for mid-range speakers under $1K. if anyone can point me into the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

thanks in advance!

...that 'above budget' price range per se. Plus, what constitutes 'mid-range' is probably quite subjective and more a function of one's personal budget.

I'd personally skip CNET for your needs and move towards more specialty audio/video forums such as AVS. Some of the audio/HT magazines left in the marketplace may have a few decent reviews, but with so much online content I rarely look at them anymore.

You might also wish to consider looking at separates (sub + front/center + rears) if you can get a little past the $1K point, or even stage the purchases of the various parts over a slightly longer period ($$$). Visiting the second hand audio shops can also be useful IME for in person comparisons.
