Speaker Impedance Compatibility

Nov 1, 2008 4:22AM PDT

I purchased the Pioneer A/V Home Theater Receiver Model VSX-1018.So I would like to get a nice 5.1 speaker system. It seems most speaker systems are rated at 8 ohm input. My home came w/two ceiling speakers.
They are Sonance 634T. If I purchase a 5.1 speaker system rated at 8 ohm impedance to match my A/V receivers 8 ohm output what effect if any will it have on the two Sonance speakers? Any help would be much appreciated.

are the sonance going to be used as "rears"?

don't worry about "impedance matching". Sure, some speakers are tougher to drive, but as long as they aren't too tough, there isn't any issue.

All you have to do is level match. You can use your ears, but using a radio shack SPL meter will be more accurate most likely.

The title's question is due to "matching" issues. Much less critical when mismatched rears (though somewhat nice if they did match). It however would be rather undesired if the sonance were your mains, and you added a mismatching center. in such case id add a 3rd sonance.

hope this helps.

Yes, they will be used as the rear speakers.Thank you for the info. I will do the level match. Also I will look into the SPL meter from radio shack.

Thank You
