Speaker icon in taskbar keeps disappearing

Friends: Of recent I have noticed my speaker icon in the taskbar disappeared. I unchecked then re-checked the icon in Control Panel and it reappeared. However, when I rebooted the icon was gone again. I spent hours trying different solutions on the net, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone had a similar problem who can offer a working solution? Thanks for any help. Windows XP Pro SP2. Compaq Evo
1.7 MHz.

Tufenuf: Thanks for the response. I had tried the Kelly's Korner fix before. It fixed it temporarily while the computer is on, but once you reboot it's gone. I tried it again. If you just log on and off, it stays, but once you reboot it disappears. Welcome to any more suggestions. Thanx again.

More possible solutions for disappearing speaker icon

In reply to: Re: Speaker icon in taskbar keeps disappearing

Wakenaam, After you have your speaker icon appearing in the Notification area aside of the clock go to the kink below and scroll down to line 54 (right column) and click on "Save Settings on Exit" to download a reg file fix. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. After this reboot your computer and see if it sticks.

You'll also find more possible solutions at the link below if you scroll down to "Notification Area - Icons Disappearing" if the above doesn't correct the problem.

In reply to: More possible solutions for disappearing speaker icon

Tufenuf: Thanks for the help. Just when I was about to give up and re-install XP I fixed it with the "uninstall the UPnP" solution. I tried that before, but I was doing it incorrectly. After you uncheck the UPnP checkmark, OK, next, Windows will update your request. That did the trick. Thanks again for your patience, pal. Appreciate. Cheers!!!
