Question

Speaker connection

I'm complete AV numpty and just got a pioneer vsx-521 receiver with ssh50 speakers and subw. The 5 speakers incl centre are identical the only thing that differentiates is colour codes on the connection terminals on the back - one with green/black, two with red/black and two with grey/black. In connecting I figured green must be centre as there's only one and then assumed red/black ones for the front right and left. This doesn't work and it's driving me mental! Receiver seems to be working fine with display etc.. and the connection between LG 55 tv through a hdmi cable recognises the receiver is there as when the receiver turns on the tv sound cuts out and when I turn receiver off the tv comes back on. Searched for a ssh50 manual, wiring diagram etc online for days and there just isn't anything I can find

Clarification Request
Bad ID maybe? Need more info on speaker make/model

Is that a Sony 'all in one' type system? Please provide more details so we might assist. I didn't see anything online. Understand, the models we see here across the pond may not be the same as the numptys see in Edinburgh Wink

Also, it would be helpful if you uploaded a few photos of your current connections/wiring. I use imgur.com for just this type of thing. Just post the links back here after you have uploaded a few useful photos of the wiring/etc.

Pioneer S-HS50 speakers (bookshelf ones)

Hi thanks sorry I got the speaker model no wrong, its S-HS50 and it's Pioneer as well. I think it might be circa 2011 but difficult to confirm that - have looked using the right model no for an online manual and on pioneer website and nothing. It's occurred to me to try different speaker combinations against different terminals on the receiver, just don't want to damage anything when it's power on. So it's pioneer vsx-521 receiver and a 5.1 setup with 5 X identical pioneer S-HS speakers and the sub woofer. Will have a go at taking the pics - thanks!

I am guessing your problem is not in...

the speaker connection but rather some other system setup or connections. Do you have a dvd/bru-ray player connected to this system. If so, try some music cd. Does it work ok?

Pioneer s-hs50 speakers with pioneer VSX-521 receiver

Hi, I don't have any other components hooked up. So at the moment I just have:
- receiver connected via HDMI 2.0 cable to the ARC port for HDMI on the LG TV (wondered whether the HDMI 2.0 cable might be an issue - would the receiver and TV not work with anything other than a HDMI 1.4 cable?)
- sub- woofer connected to the receiver
I think these above 2 connections are OK because I easily did find an online manual for the receiver model)
- speakers connected to the receiver as green/black for centre speaker, one of the red/black speakers to receiver front left, and the other red/black to receiver front right
I've also set the receiver to 'HDMI on' and followed the LG instructions for HDMI through ARC as well.

Really need those photos

Something doesn't quite jive in your description.

Keep in mind that ARC rarely works, even between components from the same brand.
