I've noticed a surge in years-old threads being hit by SPAM, bringing them back to the front page of the forum even after the SPAM has been removed. My suggestion is to have threads auto-lock after a certain period of inactivity, maybe a year.

Discussion is locked
And may be something worth taking another look at. I like the idea of members being able to continue old discussions, even just to say 'thank you,' rather than being forced to create new ones, which leaves me conflicted on that proposal, though. The larger issue to be addressed is threads not automatically receding back into place after a spam reply has been deleted. That's a bug that should be addressed in Phase II of the forum overhaul.
