Spam Blockers...

Oct 7, 2005 3:42PM PDT

Anyone know of a spam blocker that REALLY works. I'm using Norton Internet Security and it picks up less than half of my spam. Everyday I get another flyer for Rolex watches and other garbage. I tell Norton it's spam, but the stuff still slips through. I think it's because of fake sender address and fake subject contents.

Today I tried "Mailwasher" and it seems to let as much junk in as Norton. I would prefer a free program, but am willing to pay to keep this garbage out.

Which email program do you use?

Most email programs, (Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscapes Messenger, Thunderbird, etc), allow you to set "rules" to move spam to any folder of your choice, eg the trash folder.

Check your email program, eg in OE it is under Tools > Message Rules, and set up your own rules to remove spam immediately it arrives into your Inbox.

For example, I use Netscape's Messenger and have set up rules to Junk mail that has the word Rolex in the subject line to my Trash folder. I also only accept emails from email addresses held in my address book.

Have a look. Mine works pretty well for me after a bit of setup and "learning" by the email program.

I use POPMAIL

POPMAIL (google.com) is free, trainable and lets in about 1 unsolicited email a day tops now.

Remember that since it must be trained, the first day will "let as much junk in as Norton."

Spam

I use an excellent programme MailWasher from Firetrust.
It has a comprehensive knowledgebase of known spammers and filtyers them out.
You can very easily create your own filters and add them to its protection process.
It allows you to view or read incoming mail while it is still on the server, you then decide what you want to download to your pc.
It also helps a little with virus protection.
