The USB mouse is plugged into... USB and may need updated motherboard drivers. Microsoft doesn't supply these.
The longer startup time is not unusual since more security items and checks are performed.

As soon as I updated to Service Pack 2 I couldn't use my USB mouse. I had to use my keyboard to close down windows. If I uninstall SP2 my mouse works once again. On startup with SP2 installed my mouse does not blink at startup and does not light up. I have tried repairing WinXP and reinstalling WinXP. Now that I have gone back to SP1 I also notice that it is taking longer to start up then before. It is an IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 and PS2 compatible mouse!
I have gotten all the latest updates for this mouse. I am at a loss and very frustrated. Please help!
Thank you
Sue
