I have never heard of an issue with XP SP2 and internet connectivity. I have been using this configuration for nearly 3 months with no issues regarding dropped connection EXCEPT a temporary wireless router issue. I would press the ISP for better support.
Well Recently my internet decided to randomly shut off at times, the modem would act like it was reseting then when it got to the point where it would normally be normal and flash as if it were working, it would restart the restart process. It does this everyonce in awhile. But then I noticed that all my webpages are showing up very slowly, and its only letting me upload at 2 or less kb/sec I figured I'd call comcast.
I call them and ask if they can check my connection and they say its pinging fine around 25ms which is good obviously, and that everything checks out fine, then they were like is your windows xp home have sp2? I was like yes it does its a windows disc with slipstreamed sp2 in it, shes like well that could be your problem, alot of people latley have been having problems with the internet and sp2.
Well ive always had sp2 and never had this problem till just like a week ago and it was random, everything that has to do with the internet lags except my one online game(counterstrike) I never lag in the game or anything just everything else.
I just reformated thinking somthing just happened and a good reformat would help...still doing it.
Also I found a SP2 connectivity fix that replaces the tcpip.sys with another that allows unlimited simaltaneous connections(instead of just 10 simaltaneous with the sp2 crap).
Anyone know a fix for this internet lag with out having to get a windows xp with sp1, because thats $99 I really dont wanna spend.
