sp2 install

by Fish / April 11, 2005 2:12 AM PDT

Hi, Im in the middle of sp2 install on a friends PC.
Im not sure if I have a problem or not.The install screen showing progress graf hasn't moved for over 45 minutes. It says "finishing install" and under that says running processes after download. Is this length of time normal and should I just wait it out? I am driving back and forth to her PC and mine for
Good thing my car runs on potatoe skins.:-)
So,how long should I wait for this process to finish?
Or do you think I need to stop and start over?
I don't mind waiting but Im just wondering if this delay is normal so Im not waiting for nothing.

since you posted, it seems that the installation has failed, and if you can, you should cancel out of it.

Then reboot your friends machine and test it for full functionality. I have heard that such installation appears to fail at the last step but when rebooted everything seems fine.

You can do a quick test to see if SP2 has been installed or not, (if you do not get any messages from SP2's new Security Centre options when Windows has loaded).

Goto Start > Run and type in winver, Press OK

You should get a About Windows box open with something like
Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2rtm.xxxxx-xxxx : Service Pack 2). xxxx is just numbers.

Or, when booting up, the Windows logo screen just says Windows XP, and not Windows Home, or Windows Professional.

Good luck

Whew! Ten minutes after I posted I got a call from my friend that the install had FINALLY finished.I went back and finished up with no problems.I just wasn't sure what was happening because it seemed to just sit there.Just a little anxious working on someone elses PC.
Thank's for your reply Mark. All went well.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
