it's possible that you had messenger running while trying to install?

the *.chm is (if i recall correctly) a windows help file, which may need to be over-written...

try closing down all programs and then install...

hope this helps

Hello, I downloaded unsuccessfully SP2 this morning and had problems starting my computer for a few hours. I just about chit my pants. Finally I was able to re-boot, a learning experience.

I went to add new programs/Delete.

I deleted SP2 and reinstalled.

After that, Today that is no problems.

Good Luck, Hoped this helped, Im not a wizard just the basics.

I had the same error occur when I tried to install SP2. What I found is that there was a CRC error on the C:\Program Files\Messenger directory. To fix this, right-click on the drive (C, in this case) and select properties. Then the tools tab and click Check now... under error checking. Check both check boxes and then restart. Then I installed SP2 without a hitch.
