SP for win2000

Nov 30, 2003 4:47AM PST

Getting tired of fighting Win XP, thinking of going to Win 2000.

How many service patches are there for 2000 and where do I get the downloads?

TIA

Ben

Well the latest SP is #4 and you can download from MS update or order the disk from the same.

There are 4 major SPs and numerous other items.

Windows 2000 has been out a bit longer so here's the writeups on each SP:

SP1 (page 1) -> http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q259/5/24.asp
SP1 (page 2) -> http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;269425
SP1 (page 3) -> http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;269428

After SP1, more fixes appeared and then SP2, SP3, and SP4 appeared. And after SP4 appeared, more patches are needed.

I'm sorry to show you this, but if you wanted an OS with less patches, I frankly don't know of any except "DOS."

SP's & updates
Dec 1, 2003 3:40AM PST

Thanks rocky and Bob,

I knew there would be SP's. needed to know how many.

I have XP with SP1 on the disc, but if I reformat and reinstall XP, will MS automatically send me all the updates that they have been sending at random since I installed XP. Or do I have to search the MS site to locate all the updates they have put out since SP1?

Also same question for Win2000, will I have to download a bunch of updates along with the 4 SP's?

Thanks again.

Ahh, you thought you had to install SP1, SP2, SP3, SP4 and more?

It's only a little simpler. You install SP4 and then Post-SP4 items.

Is there something not being asked here? If you install 2000, then SP4, you can let Windows Update find the rest.

YES Re:Ahh, you thought you had SP1, SP2YYUES, SP3, SP4 and more?

Thanks Bob,

That is exactly what I thought.

My last experience with patches was with 98SE, and I ended up reformatting C drive because it screwed up the computer.

SO if I install W2K with SP4 or XP, with SP 1, MS will take care of doing the rest. Great!

Thanks

Ben
