Source File Cannot be Read

by Kauffy87 / January 6, 2010 10:49 PM PST

I tried to download AVG Free and got this message

"avg_free_stb_all_9_40_cnet(3).exe.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Try again later, or contact the server administrator."

I have a new HP Pavillion Laptop dvt4 with Windows 7. Tried using firefox and IE but same problem.

Suggestions please!

Thank you!

Chrome worked for me
by trainsem / January 25, 2010 7:36 AM PST

There are numerous threads that you can find in Google about this error message. They cover both IE and Firefox, XP, Vista and Win7 and go back as far as 2007, so it is not a new problem and there is probably no single solution.

My problem was in Windows 7 and a 500 MB .exe download from Microsoft. I use a different AV product which I disabled, to no avail.

Finally, I used the Chrome browser (from Google) and it allowed the large download.

There is always the problem that the problem is indeed at the download site.
