Question

Soundproblems after installing Win 10 April 2018 Update

May 4, 2018 9:54AM PDT

Dear forum-members,

As the subject title indicates, I am experiencing soundproblems after installing the Windows 10 April 2018 Update.
It seems that I am left with only(!) 2 options concerning the volumelevel of the soundcard:
(1) I can put it in "mute", so there's no sound at all!
(2) I can set ANY level between 1 and 100, the result of the soundlevel is now always a 100. There is NO audible scaling possible…. at least NO difference in volume.

Can anybody tell me IF, and if so, HOW I can correct this?

With kind regards,
Olyfant

Answer
windows updates keep changing driver files

which shouldn't be doing. Reload the sound driver files from your computer manufacturer site, or the motherboard site.

In which order must I install?

I have a "Sound Blaster X-Fi MB5" with (I think) "Realtek High Definition Audio" software.

In which order must I install:
- SBX first, then Realtek?
- Realtek first, then SBX?

first, turn off fast boot

then reboot a couple times. On the second reboot, install them all, no particular order. Reboot into windows. You can turn FastBoot back on if you wish.

What is "FastBoot"?
Where do I find it?
Sorry if I sound dumb. Plain

Look into disabling Windows driver updates.

Then install the drivers from the PC's maker.

Thanks guys!!! Happy

I finally installed both SBX and Realtek-driver and it seems to be working again.
Thanks a lot, great advice! Grin

Oh yeah, I found FastBoot….it is not active on my laptop due to SSD (I think). Wink
